Drunken British Man Destroys Pattaya Bar, Burns Wife’s Clothes in Violent Rampage
PATTAYA – A 59-year-old British national triggered a violent disturbance in Pattaya on Thursday evening after breaking into a local bar and assaulting his Thai brother-in-law before returning home to burn his wife’s wardrobe. The incident, which unfolded in the Soi Buakhao area, resulted in the man’s hospitalization and pending criminal charges.

According to surveillance footage and witness accounts, the intoxicated man, identified only as Mr. A, forced entry into the establishment by smashing a door with his shoulder. Once inside, he threw a pool ball at liquor bottles behind the bar and broke through a panel to access an upper floor where he attempted to confront his brother-in-law. The relative responded in self-defense, striking Mr. A in the head with an elbow and causing significant bleeding.

After fleeing the scene, Mr. A returned to his residence where he set fire to his wife’s clothing, estimated to be worth tens of thousands of baht. He documented the destruction via video call to his spouse, stating “I have burnt all your clothes, come home quickly!” Emergency services transported the bleeding man to Pattaya Bhattamakun Hospital after police persuasion, though he initially refused medical treatment.

The brother-in-law informed authorities this was not the first violent episode, alleging Mr. A had previously offered 50,000 baht to have him attacked. Police are reviewing CCTV footage and previous reports to determine appropriate charges, expected to include criminal damage and assault. Investigators are also considering whether additional protective measures are necessary to prevent further escalation.
