Tourists Arrested for Public Urination, Obscene Gestures on Pattaya Beach

PATTAYA — Two foreign tourists were arrested on Friday night after urinating into the sea off Pattaya Beach and flipping off locals who confronted them. The incident sparked outrage among residents and prompted calls for improved public facilities along the shoreline, the Bangkok Post Reported.

Indian Tourists Seen Openly Urinating at Pattaya Beach

Municipal authorities were alerted around 10 p.m. near Pattaya Soi 6, where the two men were seen relieving themselves directly into the water. When approached by locals, including 47-year-old resident Roongarun Jaemad, the tourists responded with obscene gestures and attempted to flee before being detained by police.

The men were fined an undisclosed amount for public indecency and released after processing. Their nationalities were not disclosed, though witnesses confirmed they were foreigners. The incident has renewed demands for more public toilets and clearer signage to deter such behavior, which residents say tarnishes the city’s image.

Pattaya officials acknowledged the need for enhanced infrastructure and vowed to address community concerns. The city, which relies heavily on tourism, has struggled to balance hospitality with maintaining public decorum. Authorities warned that repeat offenders could face stricter penalties, including deportation.
