British Rider Faces Upgraded Charges After Fatal Pattaya Crash
PATTAYA — A British national is set to face more severe legal consequences after a Thai woman, critically injured in a motorbike collision allegedly caused by his reckless riding, succumbed to her injuries in hospital. The incident, which occurred on Soi Bongkot 8 on the night of 14 August, has sparked public outrage and calls for stricter enforcement against dangerous driving.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the foreigner performing dangerous wheelies and stunts before crashing into 49-year-old Jurairat Phettratsa, who was riding normally along the same road. Despite emergency treatment, Jurairat—who suffered severe head trauma and multiple injuries—passed away on 17 August after three days in critical condition.
Police confirmed the suspect, who initially denied responsibility, had his passport flagged to prevent him from leaving Thailand. CCTV footage and multiple witness statements directly contradict his claims of innocence. He had already been charged with reckless driving and endangerment, but prosecutors are now expected to upgrade the charges to include causing death by dangerous driving, which carries significantly harsher penalties under Thai law.
