Music Festival Marred by Tragedy, Theft, and Intrusion in Phuket

PHUKET – A series of unsettling incidents overshadowed the three-day Electric Daisy Carnival music festival in Phuket, including the mysterious death of a young Indian man, the theft of a valuable engagement ring, and an attempted break-in at a DJ’s hotel room.

A 26-year-old Indian man died on Saturday night after exhibiting erratic behavior following his attendance at the festival. Witnesses reported that he damaged property along Bandon-Choeng Thale Road in Choeng Thale before being taken to Thalang Hospital. He later went into shock and passed away. Authorities found no signs of physical assault, and an autopsy is being conducted at Vachira Phuket Hospital to determine the cause of death.

In a separate incident, a couple attending the festival lost a diamond engagement ring worth approximately 300,000 baht, along with other valuables. The woman, Acare Alice, posted on Facebook for help after her boyfriend discovered his chest bag open and his Louis Vuitton wallet missing. The wallet contained credit cards, 2,500 baht in cash, and the ring, which he had brought to propose to her during the event.

Meanwhile, DJ Mirinda Nalinrattanawadee reported an attempted break-in at her four-star hotel room while she was resting alone on Friday. She heard her doorbell ring, followed by someone using a key to try to enter. The latch prevented entry, and the intruder fled after she shouted through the door.

Initially, hotel management claimed security footage showed no one approached her room, but they later acknowledged that staff possessed a master key. Police arrested a 39-year-old hotel security guard on Sunday after recovering CCTV footage that showed him attempting to access the DJ’s room after his shift, having changed out of his uniform. The guard had erased parts of the recording, but police managed to restore it and identify him.
