Residents Report Suspicious Drone-Like Objects Near Suvarnabhumi Airport
SAMUT PRAKAN – Residents in Samut Prakan province have raised alarms after observing a large number of unidentified flying objects resembling drones in groups near Suvarnabhumi Airport, prompting an urgent security response and investigation. Multiple locals reported the sightings, which occurred close to critical aviation infrastructure, leading authorities to heighten surveillance and review the nature and origin of the objects.
Cambodian Drones Spotted Near Thai Oil Rigs as Border Conflict Widens
The reports originated from residents in Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Phli district, who contacted journalists on December 21 after witnessing the objects on the evening of December 20. One resident, identified as Khun Ple, provided photos and video footage, stating the objects were first noticed around 7:30 p.m. hovering above shops near their home. Khun Ple described the objects as large, not typical consumer drones or aircraft lights, and expressed fear due to their unknown purpose and unprecedented number.
Another resident, Phi Yai, corroborated the account, noting the objects appeared to be drones moving from the direction of Bang Na–Trat Road into Nong Prue. Both residents emphasized that such sightings had never occurred in the area before and voiced concerns over safety.
The National Security Council (NSC) has approved measures to counter drone incursions in sensitive areas, following reports of multiple drones flying near Suvarnabhumi Airport, raising concerns over aviation safety and national security.

In response, security agencies—including police, local administrative officials, and Suvarnabhumi Airport security—held an urgent meeting to establish emergency response protocols for potential drone incursions into restricted airspace. Authorities are currently examining the provided images and videos and have not yet confirmed whether the objects were drones.
Korat Police on Alert for Possible Foreign Mercenaries, Drone Activity
As a precaution, additional surveillance measures have been implemented, including the deployment of anti-drone equipment and intensified security patrols. A 9-kilometer drone exclusion zone remains in effect around the airport. Community leaders have been instructed to advise residents to immediately report any suspicious individuals or drone activity to local police.
