Indian National Arrested in Nong Khai for Overstaying After Losing $216,000 Gambling

NONG KHAI – Immigration police in Nong Khai have apprehended a 38-year-old Indian national accused of overstaying his visa and fraudulently obtaining hotel accommodations without payment. The arrest on November 13th followed multiple complaints from local hotel operators regarding the suspect’s suspicious behavior and unpaid bills.

The individual, identified as Rohit, had entered Thailand legally in August 2025 but remained in the country after his permission to stay expired on October 15th. During police questioning, he admitted to withdrawing 7 million baht (approximately $216,000) from his personal bank account and losing the entire amount while gambling in a neighboring country. Left without funds, he returned to Thailand and began moving between hotels in Nong Khai under false pretenses.

Police Colonel Noppadol Rakchat, Chief of the Nong Khai Immigration Office, confirmed that Rohit now faces charges of overstaying his visa, an offense that can result in fines, detention, and deportation. Authorities are investigating the source of the substantial funds and examining whether additional charges related to the fraudulent hotel stays will be filed. The suspect remains in custody at the immigration office as the investigation continues ahead of expected deportation proceedings.
