Five Family Members Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Sriracha

CHONBURI – On Tuesday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred in Si Racha, Chonburi, in which five members of the same family died in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide motivated by serious financial problems. The discovery was made after relatives, unable to contact the family for several days, requested a welfare check at their residence in the Nong Kham subdistrict.

Police and rescue workers arrived at the scene around 4:00 PM to find the house locked and emitting a strong odor. Upon entering, officers discovered the bodies of 62-year-old Somjin, his 60-year-old wife Thassawan, their 21-year-old daughter Sukunya, their one-year-old granddaughter, and Somjin’s 82-year-old mother-in-law. Four victims showed severe head injuries consistent with blows from a heavy stone mortar found at the scene, while Somjin was found deceased by hanging in the bathroom.

Neighbors and a friend described Somjin as a hardworking street vendor who sold squid and fermented rice noodles at a local market. Preliminary investigation suggests that overwhelming financial pressures may have triggered a mental health crisis leading to the tragedy.
