Senior Prison Officer Kills Ex-Wife, Her New Partner, and Himself in Korat Murder-Suicide
NAKHON RATCHASIMA – A senior corrections officer shot and killed his ex-wife and her new partner before taking his own life in a violent murder-suicide at a staff residence within Nakhon Ratchasima Central Prison on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 7:50 PM, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Police and rescue workers arriving at the scene discovered the body of Nattapong Kliangpiboon, a senior prison department director, outside the house with a 9mm handgun lying beside him. Inside the residence, they found two other victims: Trakul Phanchai, the prison’s nursing director and Nattapong’s former wife, and Wichit Thongsing, a recently appointed prison warden who had been in a relationship with her.
Initial investigations revealed that the three had been engaged in a heated argument prior to the shooting. The confrontation escalated when Nattapong opened fire on the couple. Wichit reportedly returned fire using a .38-caliber handgun, leading to a brief exchange of gunshots. Both Trakul and Wichit sustained fatal wounds during the altercation, while Nattapong suffered minor injuries. Following the shootout, Nattapong died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate Trakul and Wichit and rushed them to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. Police have identified jealousy as the primary motive, noting that Nattapong had been enraged by his former wife’s new relationship with Wichit, who had recently been transferred to the same prison.
