Phuket Murder Suspect Re-enacts Fatal Robbery of Tour Guide

A 43-year-old man has confessed to the murder and robbery of a prominent Phuket tour guide, participating in a detailed crime re-enactment for police on Thursday. The suspect, Jirasek Yodbamrung, was escorted by Mueang Phuket Police to three key locations, including the shopping mall where he allegedly stalked the victim, Orathai Ayuphong, who served as Vice President of the Andaman Tour Guide Association.

During the re-enactment, the suspect demonstrated how he followed the victim to her car where the fatal assault occurred. He also led authorities to the locations where he disposed of his clothing and abandoned both the victim’s body and vehicle in an attempt to conceal the crime.

According to police, Jirasek confessed to choking Orathai to death during a struggle inside her vehicle before stealing her gold jewelry and other valuables.

Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum confirmed that the suspect acted alone, with financial debt identified as the sole motive for the crime. Investigators have recovered some of the victim’s belongings after the suspect admitted to selling the stolen gold for 48,420 baht to settle his outstanding debts.
