British Yoga Instructor Arrested on Koh Phangan for Unauthorized ‘Tantra’ Classes
KOH PHANGAN – A British national has been apprehended by tourist police on Koh Phangan for allegedly conducting unauthorized “Tantra Yoga” sessions, which authorities have described as “sex yoga.” The arrest occurred on November 5, 2025, following a targeted inspection of a local restaurant in the island’s Moo 8 area.
Police Shut Down Illegally Operated Spanish-Run Hostel on Koh Phangan
The operation was launched after investigators received a tip-off accompanied by social media evidence. A Facebook account had been advertising weekly classes every Tuesday, charging participants 400 baht per session and describing activities that appeared sexually suggestive. Upon arriving at the venue, officers discovered the 40-year-old woman, identified as Ms. M., leading a session for a group of foreign attendees.
During the class, Ms. M. was observed guiding students through meditation and physical exercises, including poses that involved participants sitting on her knees. When questioned, she presented documentation showing her occupation as a Customer Relations Manager for a property management company, but her work permit did not authorize her to work as a yoga instructor.

Polish Man Arrested in Koh Pha Ngan after Allegedly Working Without Legal Permission
This incident marks the second such case on the island within two years, following the March 2024 arrest of a Polish national who offered comparable classes. Authorities have expressed concern that these activities damage Koh Phangan’s cultural reputation. The suspect now faces charges of working without proper authorization under Thailand’s Foreign Employment Management Decree. Police officials have reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying crackdowns on illegal activities by foreigners, particularly during the peak tourist season.
