Iranian Duo Arrested for Snatching Indian Tourist’s Cash at Bangkok Mall

BANGKOK – An Iranian couple was apprehended at a prominent Bangkok shopping mall on Thursday after allegedly snatching $600 from an Indian tourist. The incident unfolded at Siam Paragon in Pathum Wan district when the two suspects attempted to flee with the currency following a suspicious request to examine the victim’s money.

Iranian Tourists Arrested for Sneaker Theft in Phuket

According to police reports, the suspects identified as 41-year-old Mostafa Salimishorjeh and 36-year-old Marzieh Pahangeh had drawn attention from mall security through their unusual behavior upon entering the department store. The couple had been approaching foreign tourists and asking to see their US dollar bills.

The situation escalated when the Iranian pair approached a 46-year-old Indian national and made the same request. After the victim handed over his money, the couple allegedly attempted to escape with $600 in US currency, equivalent to approximately 52,480 baht. Mall security personnel quickly intervened and detained the suspects following the incident.

Iranian Couple Arrested in Pattaya for Elaborate Tourist Scam

Police arriving at the scene recovered the stolen cash along with a large satchel from the suspects. Although the Iranian couple initially denied the theft allegations, authorities proceeded to charge them with theft. The two are currently detained at Pathum Wan police station awaiting further legal proceedings. The Indian tourist confirmed to officers that he discovered his money missing immediately after complying with the couple’s request to examine his currency.
