Thai Authorities Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Foreign Operations in Southern Islands
Thai police have launched a reinforced campaign against illegal activities by foreigners on the popular islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. The initiative, targeting offenses ranging from nominee businesses to unauthorized work, was underscored by Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Samran Nuanma, who emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding Thai citizens and upholding the law. The operation forms part of a broader effort by the Royal Thai Police and partner agencies to ensure lawful conduct and sustain public trust, the Bangkok Post reported.

A high-level strategy meeting chaired by Pol Gen Samran recently convened key officials, including the deputy governor of Surat Thani and senior law enforcement representatives. The session focused on developing a coordinated approach to suppress illegal foreign activities in the province. Measures discussed include maintaining robust, transparent, and continuous law enforcement, with all offenders facing legal consequences without exception.
Addressing concerns from the private sector about potential negative effects on tourism, Pol Gen Samran assured that the enforcement actions would not target law-abiding tourists or residents. He stressed that the strategy involves reviewing immigration records and targeting specific irregularities rather than profiling nationalities, aiming to preserve fairness and transparency throughout the process.

Environmental violations have become a focal point, with several cases involving foreign nationals, including Israelis, accused of carrying out illegal land modifications.
