The fire reportedly started in a bedroom before spreading to the lounge area at the rear of the establishment. Firefighters quickly contained the flames using extinguishers, preventing further damage. Inside the bedroom, authorities discovered a scorched laundry basket and burnt clothing. While the exact cause remains undetermined, investigators are focusing on a 39-year-old man, the former boyfriend of the bar owner, who has been taken into custody for questioning.
Ladda Hair, 39, owner of Anne’s Island Spice Bar, expressed shock over the incident, stating she was unaware of what triggered the fire. She recalled a previous electrical short circuit at the venue but emphasized that this incident appeared different. Moments before the fire erupted, Ladda was preparing to close the bar when smoke suddenly filled the interior. A quick-thinking motorcycle taxi driver nearby helped control the initial flames using a fire extinguisher, preventing a more severe disaster.
A local resident, speaking anonymously, revealed that the bar owner’s ex-boyfriend had allegedly threatened to burn down the establishment. While the motive remains unclear, the witness urged police to thoroughly investigate his possible involvement. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area and collecting witness statements to determine whether the fire was intentionally set.
