Thailand Launches 24-Hour Digital Platform for Foreign Work Permits

BANGKOK – The Ministry of Labour has inaugurated a comprehensive digital service platform named “e-WorkPermit,” designed to allow foreign workers and their employers to complete the entire work permit process online. Labour Minister Treenuch Thienthong announced that the new system enables applicants to submit documents, track application status, receive approvals, and obtain permits without the need to visit government offices in person.

The platform is a key component of the “Outsourcing Service Project for Producing Work Permits and Providing Application and Employment Notification Services for Foreign Workers.” It aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and convenience in the administration of foreign labour. Nationwide service through the website eworkpermit.doe.go.th is scheduled to begin on October 13. To support the digital transition, the Department of Employment has prepared 54 Work Permit Service Centers across the country.

Department of Employment Director-General Pichet Thongpan explained that the system significantly streamlines the work permit process by reducing paperwork and bureaucratic procedures. It also improves data security and inter-agency coordination by maintaining an integrated digital database accessible to all relevant authorities for monitoring and verification purposes.

Through the platform, applicants can register, submit employment details, and pay application fees online at any time of day. The system automatically reviews submitted documentation and sends status updates via email, SMS, or the official Line OA channel. Once an application is approved, users can pay the permit fees and schedule an appointment at their chosen service center for a final step involving biometric identity verification, including facial, iris, and fingerprint scans, to ensure accuracy and security, National News Bureau of Thailand reported.

The Ministry of Labour has provided hotlines 1506 (press 2) and 1694 for public assistance and inquiries related to the new service.
