Emergency services, including rescue teams from the Udon Thani Promprom Foundation, medics from Udon Thani Hospital, and officers from Na Kha Police Station, responded to the scene following a report to the Udon Thani Emergency Call Centre. The victim, described as a male approximately 30 to 40 years of age, was found without any identification. His body was transported to Udon Thani Hospital for examination and identification.
A black Honda sedan with front-end damage was found parked nearby. The 31-year-old female driver explained that she was traveling back to Roi Et with her partner after visiting her mother in Nong Khai. She reported seeing a pickup truck swerve ahead of her but did not realize it had been avoiding a person. She drove over what she initially believed to be an animal, only stopping when a following van driver alerted her to the grim reality.
According to an emergency worker at the scene, the victim had already been struck and dragged a considerable distance before the Honda made contact. Multiple other vehicles subsequently ran over the body. Local residents noted that a roadside shelter near the accident site is frequently used by homeless individuals, suggesting the victim may have been resting there before attempting to cross the highway.
