Man Dies as Fire Engulfs Four-Story Bangkok Shophouse

BANGKOK — A man was found dead on the third-floor balcony of a four-story shophouse near Nang Linchi Intersection on Ratchadaphisek Road early Monday morning after a fire tore through the building. The blaze, which erupted around 5:05 a.m., is believed to have originated from a refrigerated pickup truck parked against the ground floor.

Emergency responders from the Thung Maha Mek Police Station, fire department, and rescue volunteers brought the flames under control after 40 minutes. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was discovered severely burned on the balcony. No other injuries were reported, as neighboring units were evacuated promptly.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire started in the truck—used for transporting frozen goods—before spreading rapidly to the upper floors. Forensic teams from Chulalongkorn Hospital and the Poh Teck Tung Foundation are examining the scene to determine the exact cause. Police are reviewing security footage and witness statements to piece together the sequence of events.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into potential contributing factors, including electrical faults or hazardous materials in the vehicle. The incident underscores ongoing concerns about fire safety in densely populated urban areas where commercial and residential spaces often intersect.
