American National Arrested for Heroin Smuggling at Phuket Airport

Phuket – A 60-year-old American man was apprehended at Phuket International Airport on July 16th, 2025, for attempting to transport 6.6 kilograms of heroin concealed inside powdered creamer containers. The suspect, identified as Mr. T., was intercepted during check-in procedures following a tip-off from an international law enforcement agency.

The arrest resulted from a joint operation involving Phuket Immigration, Tourist Police, Narcotics Suppression Units, and Customs officials. Authorities had been monitoring the suspect since July 14th after receiving intelligence about his alleged involvement in drug trafficking. Airport security detected the illicit substance during routine X-ray screening, which revealed heroin stashed inside 10 non-dairy creamer boxes.

During interrogation, Mr. T. denied ownership of the narcotics, claiming the luggage belonged to a French acquaintance who had requested he transport it to France. His travel itinerary included layovers in Doha and Brussels before reaching his final destination.

Police General Saksira Phueak-Am, Commander of the Tourist Police Bureau, has directed an expanded investigation to uncover potential accomplices and dismantle the smuggling network. The case underscores ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to combat transnational drug trafficking, particularly through major tourist hubs like Phuket.

The arrest highlights the increasing sophistication of drug concealment methods and the critical role of international cooperation in intercepting such operations.
