Thai court rules to extradite Briton to UAE to fight fraud charges

BANGKOK, March 29 — Thailand’s Court of Appeals on Tuesday ruled to extradite a British national to face trial in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on fraud charges involving more than US$150 million after allowing him to withdraw his petition fighting extradition to Dubai.

The Criminal Court ruled on Feb 18 last year that Michael Bryan Smith, 44, a Briton, was guilty of fraud, document falsification and using false documents which together carry a maximum penalty of three years jail.

According to the Court of Appeals’ decision, Mr Smith will be extradited to the UAE as ruled earlier by the lower court.
