BANGKOK, 29 March 2011 (NNT) – The cabinet has acknowledged that some historical sites in the northern part of Thailand have been damaged by the recent 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar.

In his report to the Cabinet, Culture Minister Nipit Intarasombat said the tremor in Myanmar last Thursday night brought damages to several monasteries such as Phra That Chomkitti, Phra That Chedi Luang, Phra That Phu Khao and Pa Sak, all in Chiang Rai province and Phumin Monastery in Nan province.

After acknowledging the report, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva assigned the Ministry of Culture to draw up a renovation plan and forward it with a budget estimate to the cabinet for consideration.
