HAT YAI, Songkhla – An express train traveling on the Padang Besar–Hat Yai line collided with a pickup truck at a railway crossing in Sadao district on Saturday morning, leaving one person dead and another injured. The incident occurred around 10:55 a.m. at the Ban Bang Khwai crossing.

Police reported that the pickup truck, a white four-door Isuzu registered in Songkhla, came to a stop on the tracks just before the train approached at high speed. The train struck the stationary vehicle, hurling it across an embankment and scattering debris across the crossing.

Emergency responders pronounced the driver, 30-year-old Theerassak from Uthai Thani province, dead at the scene. A 26-year-old passenger, identified as Mr. Phanu, was injured and transported to the Hospital for treatment.

Witnesses stated that the pickup had just exited a nearby village road when it stalled on the railway line. They noted the train arrived quickly and could not stop in time. Some observers suggested the vehicle’s lowered suspension may have caused it to become stuck on the tracks while crossing.

Local residents indicated the pickup regularly passed through the area to collect loan repayments and used the same crossing daily. The crossing is equipped with warning signs but lacks barriers, relying on driver awareness to prevent accidents.
