SISAKET – Two Thai soldiers sustained injuries during a border clash with Cambodian troops in Si Sa Ket province on Sunday, escalating tensions in a long-disputed frontier area. The firefight occurred in the Phupha Lek-Plarn Hin Paed Korn border zone of Kantharalak district at approximately 2:15 p.m.

According to initial military reports, Thai and Cambodian soldiers exchanged small arms fire before Cambodian forces escalated the engagement by firing artillery shells. In response, Thailand’s Second Army Region returned artillery fire in accordance with its rules of engagement. The exchange lasted until about 2:50 p.m., after which Thai troops in the area remained on high alert.

The injured soldiers were identified as Sergeant Anuchart Ruekham, who was shot in the leg, and Private Pornchai Champachum, who suffered bruises from a round that struck his chest plate body armor. Both were evacuated and received treatment at Kantharalak district hospital.
