Tropical Storm Kalmaegi Set to Extend Rainfall Across Thailand
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning for continued rainfall across the country this week, attributing the prolonged wet conditions to the influence of Tropical Storm Kalmaegi. Currently moving westward through the South China Sea toward Vietnam, the storm is expected to impact Thailand’s weather patterns even after it weakens.

Environmental expert Sonthi Kotchawat stated via social media that Kalmaegi, the 13th named storm in the region this year, is forecast to make landfall in central Vietnam on Friday, directly affecting Da Nang and Khanh Hoa provinces. Before reaching the Vietnamese coast, the storm is expected to intensify near the Spratly Islands, with wind speeds potentially reaching 118 to 133 kilometers per hour.

Mr. Sonthi emphasized that even if the storm dissipates upon encountering a cooler northern weather system, its residual instability will likely result in increased rainfall over Thailand. “After it arrives in Vietnam, Thailand will be affected by the storm, contributing to more rain volumes even though we are now in the winter season,” he explained.
