Tragic Collision Claims Two Young Lives in Sisaket

SISAKET – A horrific afternoon crash between a six-wheeled lorry and a school van left two students dead and twelve others injured on Highway 226 in Sisaket province on Tuesday, 15 August.

Van Malfunction Triggers Multi-Vehicle Collision at Phuket Airport

The collision occurred around 5:20 p.m. near Ban Klang in Khayung subdistrict, as the Isuzu lorry—outfitted with a steel cargo cage—reportedly swerved across the central reservation and slammed into the oncoming Toyota van. The violent impact mangled both vehicles, scattering debris across the road and triggering a kilometers-long traffic jam.

The van, registered in Sisaket, was carrying students from Marie Srisaket School, Satree Srisaket School, and Sisaket Witthayalai School home to Rasi Salai and Silalat districts. Emergency responders administered first aid before rushing the injured to Uthumphon Phisai Hospital. Tragically, nine-year-old Karawit and thirteen-year-old Natthalak were declared dead at the scene.

Van driver Kamphrai, 62, recounted the terrifying moment the lorry suddenly crossed into his lane, leaving him no time to react. Despite fighting to keep the van upright, he discovered multiple children had sustained severe injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash and plan to question the hospitalized lorry driver once he recovers. The community mourns the young lives lost in the devastating incident.
