Thailand Braces for Heavy Rains Across Multiple Regions

Bangko, June 20, 2025 – The Thai Meteorological Department has issued weather warnings for several regions as heavy rainfall is expected to sweep across eastern, northeastern, and southern provinces over the next 24 hours. The intensified monsoon conditions raise concerns about potential flash floods and transportation disruptions.

Thailand Braces for Heavy Rain and Flood Risks as Monsoon Gains Strength

A strengthening southwesterly monsoon currently blanketing the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, coupled with a low-pressure system over northern Vietnam, is driving the unstable weather pattern. Authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to prepare for sudden downpours and possible flooding.

The northeastern provinces face the most significant threat, with 60% of the region expected to experience thunderstorms, including potential heavy rain in Nong Khai, Udon Thani, and Ubon Ratchathani. Similar conditions are forecast for eastern provinces like Chanthaburi and Trat, where wind speeds may reach 35 km/h with wave heights exceeding two meters in stormy areas.

Southern coastal regions are on high alert, particularly the western seaboard including Phuket and Phang Nga, where 70% of the area could see thunderstorms. Maritime warnings have been issued for small vessels in the upper Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, where turbulent conditions may create hazardous waves.

Bangkok and surrounding areas anticipate afternoon and evening thunderstorms affecting 60% of the capital, with temperatures peaking at 38°C amid high humidity. The northern and central regions will see scattered storms, though less intense than other areas.

Thailand Braces for Severe Monsoon Rains and Flooding

Disaster response teams are on standby in flood-prone zones, particularly in low-lying areas of the northeast and south. The Meteorological Department continues to monitor the systems closely and advises citizens to stay updated through official channels.
