Pattaya Police Nab Villa Thieves Preying on Drunk Tourists

PATTAYA, May 19 – Police have dismantled a theft ring targeting intoxicated tourists in high-end pool villas, arresting two men in a pre-dawn raid that uncovered a trove of stolen luxury items.

The breakthrough came at 1:06 AM today when officers stormed a rented house in Soi Khao Makok, apprehending Athip, 31, and Kun, a 22-year-old Cambodian national. The duo stands accused of a crime spree throughout May at Palm Spring and Palm Oasis Village villas, where they allegedly stole from partying tourists who had passed out drunk.

Authorities displayed over 100 recovered items worth hundreds of thousands of baht, including Rolex watches, Louis Vuitton handbags, Nintendo Switches, smartphones, and stacks of foreign currency. The haul also contained identification cards and credit cards from multiple nationalities.

Investigators pieced together the thieves’ methods after reviewing CCTV footage showing the pair arriving on a motorcycle. One suspect, a former villa maintenance worker, allegedly used his insider knowledge of property layouts to identify easy targets.

“They waited until victims were unconscious from alcohol,” explained Police Colonel Naris Petchrat. “The suspects admitted to selling stolen goods to finance their daily lives and drug habits.”

The arrests followed multiple complaints from both Thai and foreign tourists who woke up to missing valuables. Police traced the motorcycle to the suspects’ hideout, where they discovered the stolen cache.

Both men have reportedly confessed and now face charges of theft and possession of stolen property. Officers are working to return recovered items to their rightful owners while preparing legal proceedings.

The case has prompted police to remind visitors to secure valuables when staying in private villas, particularly during parties. “These criminals specifically targeted people who were vulnerable from excessive drinking,” noted Col. Naris.
