Phra Prang Sam Yod – The Monkey Temple, Lopburi

Phra Prang Sam Yod (พระปรางค์สามยอด) is a Khmer temple in Lopburi, Central Thailand, located on a hill east of the railroad tracks near San Phra Kan.

It consists of three prangs (“prang sam” means three prang in Thai) connected to each other by a corridor, the columns are decorated with rishis.

Built during the 13th century, Phra Prang Sam Yot was originally a sanctuary of Mahayana Buddhism. It was then used as Shiva temple.

This monastery is well known for the annual monkey buffet festival. Once a year, macaques are invited to a banquet which includes fruit, vegetables and drinks.
