Tragic Overtaking Maneuver Claims Life in Phuket Road Accident

Phuket – A 31-year-old woman from Songkhla was killed and another injured in a devastating collision between a six-wheeled truck and a motorbike on Wiset Road in Rawai on Tuesday afternoon. The accident occurred when the truck attempted to overtake the two-wheeler, leading to fatal consequences.

Chalong Police reported that the black motorbike, ridden by 28-year-old Rattanaporn from Phang Nga with pillion passenger Nantanapat, was traveling correctly in the left lane near Soi Suksan 1. CCTV footage confirmed the truck, driven by Thalang resident Aree, struck the motorbike during an overtaking attempt, sending both women sprawling onto the road.

Emergency responders from Chalong Hospital performed CPR on Nantanapat, but she succumbed to severe injuries at the scene. Her body was transferred to Vachira Phuket Hospital for formal identification, while Rattanaporn received treatment for minor injuries. The truck driver remained cooperative with authorities as investigators reconstructed the sequence of events.

“This was a preventable tragedy,” said Pol. Capt. Sitthichai Thongkham of Chalong Police. “Preliminary evidence shows the motorbike was obeying traffic rules when the truck initiated the unsafe pass.”

The case highlights ongoing road safety concerns in Phuket, where narrow lanes and mixed traffic create hazardous conditions. Police have ordered toxicology tests on both drivers as part of standard procedure, though no signs of impairment were immediately apparent.

Nantanapat’s family has been notified as authorities prepare autopsy arrangements. Meanwhile, Rattanaporn continues recovering at Chalong Hospital, where doctors describe her condition as stable.
