Thai Navy Detains Cambodian Vessel for Illegal Fishing in Trat

TRAT – The Royal Thai Navy has intercepted and detained a Cambodian fishing boat found operating illegally within Thai territorial waters off the country’s eastern coast. The operation was conducted by the warship HTMS Thepha during a routine patrol.

Navy Spokesperson Rear Admiral Parat Rattanachaiphan stated that the vessel was inspected at confirmed coordinates within Thai waters. The boat lacked any visible nationality markings or registration numbers and was crewed by four Cambodian nationals.

During questioning, the boat’s captain admitted to entering Thai waters without authorization to fish and disclosed that the vessel had been traveling with three other Cambodian fishing boats at the time of interception.

Thailand creates special unit to tackle illegal fishing

HTMS Thepha has escorted the detained vessel and its crew to Khlong Yai Port in Trat province, where they will face legal proceedings under Thai law. The Royal Thai Navy reiterated its commitment to protecting national sovereignty and announced plans to intensify patrols in the area to deter future illegal incursions.
