Police Arrest Taiwanese Drug Trafficking Suspect in Bangkok

BANGKOK – A Taiwanese national wanted in Taiwan for alleged drug trafficking was arrested by Thai immigration and narcotics officers at a condominium in Bangkok’s Asoke area on Wednesday night. The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Chiang Ming-foeng, is accused of using Thailand as a hub to prepare and ship illegal narcotics to Taiwan.

During the raid, police discovered five grams of ketamine, several floor carpets, a sewing machine, and packaging equipment in his room. Investigators reported that some of the carpets contained small hidden pockets sewn into them, allegedly used to conceal drugs in air freight shipments.

Authorities also detailed sophisticated smuggling methods attributed to Chiang. He is accused of converting heroin from powder into liquid form—resembling lotion—and filling small bottles labeled as other products before mailing them abroad in parcels.

The commissioner of the Narcotics Suppression Bureau stated that Chiang’s arrest marks a significant step in disrupting drug trafficking routes from Laos to Taiwan, with Thailand often used as a transit and preparation point. Thai immigration has revoked Chiang’s residence visa and notified Taiwanese police of his detention.
