Pickup Truck Plunges Into Sinkhole on Rama II Road in Samut Sakhon

SAMUT SAKHON – A section of Rama II Road caved in on Saturday morning, creating a sinkhole that trapped a passing pickup truck. The incident occurred around 6 a.m. at kilometer marker 29+350 in Muang district, with no injuries reported.

The truck’s front right wheel became lodged in the hole, though the driver emerged unharmed. By 8:45 a.m., highway police had successfully removed the vehicle.

Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn attributed the collapse to a ruptured one-meter-diameter water pipe owned by the Samut Sakhon municipal waterworks department. The pipe broke during excavation work to connect pipelines and restore the road surface.

The rupture disrupted water supply across all municipal areas and caused flooding on the roadway, worsening traffic congestion. Motorists were advised to avoid the area.

This incident follows a deadly crane collapse on the same road just two days earlier, which killed two people and intensified concerns over safety along the critical Bangkok–southern Thailand corridor.
