Five Killed, Including Twin Girls, in Chiang Mai House Fire
CHIANG MAI – Five members of a family, including five-year-old twin sisters, died after a devastating house fire late Tuesday night in Pa Daet sub-district, Mueang district, despite being rescued from the blaze and rushed to hospital. The fire broke out around 11:45 p.m. on January 7, 2026, causing severe damage to the two-story residence.

Emergency responders from the Pa Daet Municipality disaster prevention unit and the Phetkasem Chiang Mai Rescue Foundation arrived to find flames engulfing the main building of the house. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus battled dense smoke and intense heat to rescue the victims, bringing out the twin girls first followed by the adults.

All five were transported to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment but later succumbed to their injuries. The victims have been identified as twin sisters Darinya Larrisa and Darinya Lallinda, their 38-year-old father Mr. Kawin, their 70-year-old grandmother Mrs. Sunee, and 38-year-old Mrs. Warisara. The children and two adults were pronounced dead at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, while Mr. Kawin died at McCormick Hospital.

The fire was eventually extinguished after extensive efforts, but the house and most belongings inside were severely damaged. The cause of the blaze remains undetermined. Forensic officers have cordoned off the scene for a detailed investigation, and damage assessments are underway.
