German Tourists Arrested for Vandalizing Chiang Mai Hotel
CHIANG MAI – Two German tourists have been arrested in Chiang Mai for allegedly causing over 200,000 baht in damage to a hotel room and fleeing without compensation, police reported on December 25, 2025. The pair were detained after the hotel filed a formal complaint, leading to their arrest on charges of property destruction.

The incident occurred at a hotel on Nimmanhaemin Road in Chiang Mai’s Suthep Subdistrict, where the suspects stayed from December 18 to 21, 2025. According to investigators, the tourists became dissatisfied with the hotel’s services, argued with staff, and subsequently vandalized the room in an apparent act of anger.
After assessing the damage, which exceeded 200,000 baht, the suspects left the premises without paying for the losses. The hotel management filed a complaint with Phuping Police Station, prompting an investigation and the issuance of arrest warrants by the Chiang Mai Provincial Court.

Police located the suspects at another hotel in the Wat Ket Subdistrict of Mueang Chiang Mai. The arrest team, led by senior officers from Phuping Ratchanivet Police Station, detained the individuals, identified only as Ms. L., 21, and Mr. N., 38, both German nationals, and informed them of the charges and their legal rights.
The suspects have been transferred to Phuping Ratchanivet Police Station for further legal proceedings. Authorities emphasized that foreign visitors are subject to the same legal obligations as Thai citizens while in the country and confirmed the case will be handled in accordance with Thai law.
