BANGKOK – Newly crowned Miss Universe Cambodia 2025, Thai Nearysocheata, known professionally as Fiyata, has confirmed she will participate in the Miss Universe pageant being held in Thailand this November despite ongoing diplomatic and military tensions between the two Southeast Asian nations.

The 24-year-old titleholder, who received her crown just weeks ago, stated in an interview with the Khmer Times that her determination to represent Cambodia on the global stage remains steadfast. “Since I entered the competition, I knew in which country the competition would be held,” Fiyata explained. “I always told myself that, if I win the crown, the international stage cannot be without our Cambodian flag.” She confirmed plans to bring 63 outfits for the November 21 final.

The announcement comes amid heightened border tensions and follows earlier social media criticism directed at Fiyata for previous remarks accusing Thai forces of using chemical weapons during clashes with Cambodia.

The beauty queen’s participation has also drawn personal concern from her family, with the Kampuchea Thmey Daily quoting her mother expressing anxiety about her daughter traveling alone to Thailand given current bilateral relations. Despite these challenges, Fiyata maintains that her mission to represent Cambodian culture with strength and dignity remains unchanged as she prepares for the international competition.
