Thailand Takes Center Stage in New Jurassic World Blockbuster

Bangkok – Thailand’s stunning southern landscapes will captivate global audiences when Jurassic World: Rebirth premieres next week, marking the country’s most significant involvement in a Hollywood franchise to date. The production injected over 400 million baht into local economies during its month-long shoot across three provinces last year, according to NBT World.

From June to July 2024, director Gareth Edwards’s crew transformed Krabi’s emerald waters, Phang Nga’s iconic limestone karsts, and Trang’s pristine Koh Kradan beaches into prehistoric playgrounds. Khao Phanom Bencha National Park’s lush rainforests provided the perfect backdrop for dinosaur habitats, with these locations set to feature prominently in the July 2 worldwide release. The film’s production team employed advanced drone cinematography to capture Thailand’s natural wonders from unprecedented angles.

The production created temporary employment for Thai professionals across 37 specialties, from pyrotechnics experts to hospitality coordinators. Local craftsmen built intricate sets while marine crews facilitated water-based shoots, demonstrating Thailand’s growing film infrastructure. The Tourism Authority estimates the movie could generate 5 billion baht in tourism revenue as fans flock to see the real-life locations.

Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsupakitkosol hailed the project as validation of Thailand’s 20-year push to become Asia’s premier filming destination. “This isn’t just about one movie,” she noted. “We’ve proven our capacity to handle productions of any scale while protecting our natural assets.” The film office reports a 40% increase in location permit applications since the Jurassic World wrap was announced.

Industry analysts predict the franchise’s global reach could eclipse the tourism boom following The Beach in 2000, with Phang Nga Bay tours already adding “Jurassic Safari” itineraries. The government has fast-tracked improvements to filming facilities in anticipation of more major productions.
