Thai Constitutional Court Reviews Move Forward Party Dissolution and Prime Minister’s Appointment Controversy

On June 12th, 2024, the Thai Constitutional Court held a weekly meeting, addressing cases regarding the alleged subversion of the government by the Move Forward Party (MFP), and a petition by 40 senators questioning the qualifications of Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin following the controversial appointment of Pichit Chuenban as Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Constitutional Court reviewed a petition from the Election Commission (EC), submitted by the political party registrar, seeking the dissolution of the MFP. The EC’s request includes banning the party’s executive committee members from running for election and prohibiting them from registering a new party for 10 years.
