Three youths electrocuted while allegedly stealing Krathom leaves

An orchard owner in Surat Thani was arrested Monday on charges of manslaughter and possessing illicit drugs after three youths were electrocuted when they tried to steal Krathom leaves from his orchard.

The orchard owner, Somporn Detburi, planted about 10 Krathom trees among other fruit trees in his orchard in Wiang Sa district. The Krathom trees which are about five years old are protected by electrical wires to prevent thieves from stealing the addictive leaves which are regarded as the Category 5 narcotics drug.
