Ban Chiang Heritage Festival begins in Udon Thani

UDON THANI, 8 February 2014 (NNT) – The Ban Chiang Heritage Festival began on Friday evening with a colorful parade and a light and sound show, in a district famous for its archaeology.

Ban Chiang is considered the most important prehistoric settlement so far discovered in South-East Asia, and is located in Nong Han district of Udon Thani.

The district chief Viangchai Kaewpinit said the festival is aimed at increasing tourism to the district and also to promote the prehistoric nature of the northeast of Thailand. Ban Chiang was registered as the 359th World Heritage in December 1992.
