Yingluck Shinawatra expresses concerns over flood and drought

BANGKOK, 27 August 2012 (NNT) – Prime Minister of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra has expressed her concerns over both flood and drought problems while believing that this year will see less precipitation than last year.

Though admitting that the government is worried about both flood and drought situations in Thailand, PM Yingluck pointed out that floods are slightly more difficult to handle. She explained that when too much water is stored, a flood situation can easily occur if there is a large amount of rainfall. Therefore, the water level has to be maintained at a proper level while some preventative measures against flooding should be implemented beforehand.

In regard to the drought problem, the premier stated that the government has come up with certain procedures to tackle it and has assigned relevant ministries to pay close attention to all affected areas.
