3-meter flood prompts evacuation in Surat Thani

BANGKOK, 11 June 2012(NNT) – People in Phrasaeng district, Surat Thani province, have been evacuated due to a flash flood from Krabi.

Today, more than 20 families in Bang Yod Village, Phrasaeng District, Surat Thani, rushed out of the area after a large quantity of rainwater from nearby Krabi province caused Ipan Canal to overflow and flood the whole area. The water was reported to be as high as 3 meters.

There are approximately 70 other families who are still in Phrasaeng district because they do not want to leave their properties. Some of them are sick and paralyzed. The Surat Thani Provincial Administrative Organization is struggling to get them out due to strong currents and power outage.
