One soldier killed, one wounded in Pattani bombing

PATTANI, Nov 18 – A soldier was killed Friday and another was injured in a bombing while patrolling restive Pattani’s Yarang district, according to local police here.

The bomb blast killed Sgt Kongsin Chankampa, 43, and hurt Pvt Songkran Promtrai, 21, said Pol Col Tuanday Juthanan, superintendent of Yarang police station.

An initial investigation found that while the two army officers, assigned to the Pattani Special Task Force 21, were on foot patrol at Ban Khok Ya Kah village in Yarang district, an unidentified assailant detonated a home-made explosive device hidden near a bridge.
