Thai workers detained in Taiwan released and returned to Thailand

BANGKOK, 22 September 2011 (NNT) – Thai workers, who had been held by Taiwanese authorities, have now returned safely to Thailand after being arrested for petty crimes in which they could not afford the fines.

In the collaboration between the Committee on Labor and Social Security and the Thai-Taiwanese Business Association, fines and return tickets were paid for 70 of them.

According to the report, all of them, 3 of whom are mentally ill, had been detained for failing to pay the fines. The help was also initiated to mark the occasion of His Majesty the King’s 84th Birthday Anniversary.
