BANGKOK, 21 September 2011 (NNT) – Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra led a team of executives to inspect the water level in the eastern part of Bangkok in Min Buri district and to give survival kits to flood victims.
The Governor inspected the water gates in Khlong 13 and Khlong 8 and visited a community nearby while those affected by flood were given survival kits to cope with the inundation. According to the survey, the eastern side of Bangkok is located on a low lying area and outside the flood barriers.
He said the problem of this area was not only due to the amount of rains but the high tide in the sea made it impossible for floodwater to move into the ocean.
The Governor said extended measures for Bangkok to prevent inland flooding had been prepared as the Meteorology Department had forecast another round of rainfall from 20-24 October 2011.
