Southern Thailand: Masked attackers spray crowd with machine guns

A 64-year-old man was killed and four others badly wounded when masked insurgents sprayed bullets at them in Pattani province on Sunday, a day after a monk was killed and two others injured in a drive by attack.

Sunday’s attack took place at about 7am on YarangYabi Road in Yarang district, which was crowded with people having breakfast in shops, jogging and exercising.

Initial police inquiries found that six insurgents on motorcycles came to the scene and parked their bikes nearby.

Three of them, armed with M16 and AK47 rifles, walked towards the crowd and opened fire on them. The attackers then sped away from the scene.
