Cabinet approves financial assistant measures for South Thailand flood victims

BANGKOK, 9 November 2010 (NNT) – The Cabinet has agreed to provide further assistance to the flood victims down south.

According to Deputy Spokesperson of the Prime Minister’s Office Vachara Kannika, the Cabinet has agreed to include all flood victims in the South in its 5,000-baht-per-family assistance plan. The Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry has, at the same time, proposed that the measures once used to help tsunami victims be adopted to assist fishermen whose fishing equipment has been damaged.

The Cabinet has also approved the plan to offer 17,000 baht per rai for para-rubber growers whose plantations have been affected by the storm that wreaked havoc on the region last week.

Mr Vachara added that the Cabinet has also made flood rehabilitation a national agenda, urging each province to come up with its own viable plans.
