Bo Phut Beach in Koh Samui

Samui local fishermen net holy catch

Fishermen are used to all sorts of weird and wonderful things turning up in their nets. However, Samui fishermen Saereeya Sabin and Suthep Sookdee had a bit of a surprise last week.

The two friends, both 35, were fishing under the new bridge of Nathon pier when their hook snagged something hard. On hauling in their catch, the fishermen discovered a big bag containing four Buddha images. Although Saereeya Sabin often goes fishing in the area around Nathon pier, this was the first time he had caught anything of this kind.

The two men took their unusual catch straight to the local police station to be verified. They were soon told that the images were made of brass and bronze and believed to be valuable as antiques.
The police believe that they had been stolen from one of the temples on Koh Samui.

“The suspects might have wanted to keep these Buddha images in a secret place, but by fate the two local residents found them first,” police Captain Surin Baukhong told the Samui Express.

The police are currently conducting investigations to discover where they images were taken from and who by.
