Phuket Authorities Shut Down Illegal Venues in Coordinated Overnight Raids
PHUKET – Provincial officials in Phuket conducted simultaneous late-night raids on illegal entertainment establishments in Patong and Phuket Town, resulting in multiple arrests, drug seizures, and the closure of unlicensed businesses. The operations, which began after midnight on December 28, are part of a broader crackdown on social-order violations in key tourist areas, local media reported.
Chonburi province strengthens measures on illegal entertainment venues and street racing
Acting on orders from Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn, authorities moved in response to persistent complaints from residents regarding unauthorized venues and illicit drug activity. In Patong, Kathu District officials and Volunteer Defence Corps personnel targeted two venues on Rat-U-Thit 200 Pi Road.
At Forty Four K Bar, the operator, identified only as “Mr. A,” was arrested for running an entertainment venue without permission and selling alcohol without a license. Nearby, at Tropicana Bar, the operator “Ms. B” was arrested for operating without a permit. Both cases have been handed over to Patong Police.
In a separate raid in Phuket Town, officers from the Department of Provincial Administration targeted an establishment in the Poonphol area following reports of illegal drug sales, unlicensed operation, and after-hours trading. Authorities arrested a male suspect and seized approximately 3.17 grams of ketamine packaged in five small bags. Undercover officers confirmed the venue was operating as an unlicensed entertainment establishment with live music and karaoke rooms.
The venue’s manager was also arrested and faces charges including operating without permission, selling alcohol beyond legal hours, and offering prohibited discount alcohol promotions in violation of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act.
During the raid in Phuket Town, drug tests were administered to 76 staff members, with six testing positive—three for methamphetamine, two for ketamine, and one for both substances. All six have agreed to enter rehabilitation under the Narcotics Control Act. In total, two suspects were formally charged, and seized evidence was transferred to Phuket City Police.
