Cambodia Flies Over 250 Drones Across Thai Border, Violating Ceasefire
BANGKOK – Cambodia has violated the ceasefire agreement reached just two days ago by flying more than 250 drones over multiple Thai border areas, the Royal Thai Army announced on Monday. Army spokesman Major General Winthai Suvaree stated that the incursions occurred on Sunday night and represent a serious provocation.

According to the 2nd Army, the drones were sighted over several border zones, including Chong Bok, Chong An Ma, Sattasome, Sam Ta, Don Tuan, Chong Krang, Ta Muen Thom, and Sai Taku. These areas span four northeastern Thai provinces bordering Cambodia: Buri Ram, Si Sa Ket, Surin, and Ubon Ratchathani.
Major General Winthai condemned the action as a breach of both tension-reduction measures and the joint statement issued after the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on December 27. “This act is considered a provocation and violation of tension-relieving measures and does not comply with the Joint Statement,” he said. “Cambodia continues with its provocation and hostility against Thailand, which jeopardises security and the safety of military personnel and people along the border.”

The spokesman warned that continued violations could affect Thailand’s planned release of 18 captured Cambodian soldiers. “If violations of the agreement and of national sovereignty continue, the army must do its duty, which is to protect the national interest and security,” he added.

Major General Winthai noted that Thailand has adhered to peaceful efforts to reduce tensions. He also recalled that a similar large-scale drone deployment by Cambodia followed the first round of border clashes earlier this year, ultimately leading to renewed attacks earlier this month.
