Thailand Suspends Peace Pact with Cambodia After Landmine Injures Soldiers
BANGKOK – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has announced the immediate suspension of a recently signed peace agreement with Cambodia, halting the planned release of 18 captured Cambodian troops. This decisive action comes in response to a landmine explosion that injured four Thai soldiers during a border patrol in Si Sa Ket province on Monday morning.

The incident, which occurred around 9:30 a.m., resulted in one soldier losing his right foot while three others sustained lesser injuries. Mr. Anutin stated that the suspension was made in agreement with recommendations from the Defence Ministry and armed forces, declaring that the explosion demonstrated “hostility towards Thailand and a continued security threat.” The Prime Minister plans to personally visit the injured soldiers on Tuesday.

Defence Minister Nattapon Narkphanit reinforced the gravity of the situation, stating that the landmine was likely freshly laid on a regularly patrolled path. He characterized the act as a violation of the declaration signed on October 26, 2025.
