SISAKET – A Thai soldier sustained severe injuries, including the loss of his right foot, when a landmine detonated near the Cambodian border in Sisaket province on Monday morning. The explosion occurred around 9:30 a.m. in the Huai Ta Maria area, opposite the Preah Vihear Temple, according to a spokesman for the Suranaree Task Force. The injured soldiers were identified as Sgt. Maj. 1st Class Therdsak Samaphong, who suffered the traumatic amputation, and Pvt. Vachira Panthana. This incident represents the seventh instance of a Thai soldier being maimed by a landmine since border conflicts reignited in July, bringing the total number of soldiers injured by explosives in the area to 16. Military officials are investigating whether the device was recently planted or a remnant of past conflicts. The blast echoes a similar event in Surin province in late August, where another soldier also lost his right foot after stepping on a mine.
