Four Bodies Recovered Near Koh Tarutao as Authorities Probe Cause
SATUN – The bodies of four individuals have been discovered in the waters surrounding Tarutao Island in Satun province, triggering a multi-agency investigation into the tragic incident. Authorities are currently exploring two primary theories: whether the victims perished in a maritime accident caused by rough seas or if they were part of a failed illegal migrant smuggling operation.

The grim discovery was made on November 9, 2025, during a coordinated search effort. Satun Marine Police located two male corpses off the eastern coast of the island. Subsequently, the Royal Thai Navy’s Maritime Enforcement Command Centre found the bodies of another man and a young boy, estimated to be around 12 years old, on the southwestern shore. The recovery has prompted an intensified search for any potential survivors or additional victims in the area.

Officials have not yet confirmed the identities or nationalities of the deceased. Preliminary information suggests the deaths could be linked to a vessel capsizing in the challenging currents of the Andaman Sea. Alternatively, investigators are considering the possibility of a human trafficking incident where migrants were coerced or deceived into jumping overboard. Both scenarios remain under active investigation.

Satun Governor Sakra Kapilakanchana has mobilized a comprehensive search operation involving the Royal Thai Navy, Marine Police, and park authorities. Forensic evidence is being collected, and the bodies have been sent for autopsy and identification. The investigation’s findings will determine if further criminal proceedings are warranted, potentially leading to a renewed crackdown on migrant smuggling networks along the southern coastline.
